A Visit Decatur AL Ambassador is someone who represents Morgan County well through their photos on social media. It’s someone who explores, seeks adventure, captures the beauty of north Alabama, and shares it with the rest of us. It’s someone who ultimately makes us want to go out and explore for ourselves. Kyle Root

Kyle has been a Decatur resident since 1987 and is a graduate of Austin High School. By day he works as an aerospace engineer for the US Army. His creative side led him from landscape and nature photography into the world of wedding and high school senior photography. When not doing all that, he enjoys traveling with his family and loves the beach and the mountains. Being a Visit Decatur AL Ambassador provides a great way to share his love of creating images with all of Morgan County and beyond!

Hillary McKnight

Hillary has lived in Decatur since 2016. She is a real estate agent for MarMac Real Estate and also work for the Cook Museum of Natural Science! She enjoys being outdoors and finding great restaurants, and thinks that Decatur is the perfect place for that! She is always happy to help people transition to life in the River City. You can look forward to hearing from her about all the events and happenings in and around Morgan county.

Dan Truitt

Dan was born and raised in Decatur, Alabama. He spent 12 years of his early adult life in Tennessee, but has been back in Decatur since 2001. He holds a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Free-Hardeman University. He is employed as a software developer by the Alabama Farmers Cooperative, Inc., here in Decatur where he has worked for the last 14 years. He has two sons, Luke and Logan, who are both in college. Besides kayaking, he likes to stay active with his church by teaching classes either at the church or at community programs that support his church.

Miracle Osborne

Miracle is a North Alabama native with South Alabama roots. Originally from Mobile, AL, Miracle attended her first Mardi Gras parade when she was only 2 months old. Miracle graduated from the University of North Alabama and then relocated to Decatur, AL. She recently transitioned from Accounting to HR Manager for ITW Sexton and is pursuing her EMBA at the University of Alabama. Miracle currently serves as a board member for the Decatur Downtown Redevelopment Authority, the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, and the Mental Health Association in Morgan County in addition to being a member of the Decatur JAYCEES. When she’s not studying or working, she enjoys serving her community through various committees, running with the River City Runners, spending time with her mentee through the Mosaic program, swing dancing (pre-pandemic), and drinking craft beers with friends.

Chelsea is from New Market, Alabama. She works as a program manager for a DoD company in Huntsville. In her free time, she enjoys fishing, boating, and hanging with her four pups! Chelsea goes on the coolest adventures and you don’t want to miss them!

Connie Pearson

Connie is a freelance travel/food writer and blogger at www.theregoesconnie.com. She and her veterinarian husband, Steve, live in Hartselle and share 14 fantastic grandchildren. Previously, Connie was a public school music teacher in Hartselle and Morgan County, and they served as Southern Baptist missionaries in Ecuador for four years. In her blog and for other publications, Connie loves discovering the restaurants, history, culture, art, music and accommodations of the places where she travels that reflect the uniqueness of a destination. She and Steve especially enjoy sharing the activities and attractions of Morgan County with their grandchildren during their annual Cousins Camp.

Keilee is 20 years old and a life long Decatur resident. She owns a local character company, Magical Memories AL where she and her employees dress as Superheroes and Disney characters for birthday parties and other events. Even though they do hundreds of parties each year, her favorite events are the ones where they volunteer in the community. In her spare time, Keilee enjoys experiencing everything Decatur has to offer, crocheting, reading, rhinestoning anything that doesn’t move, listening to crime podcasts and chasing her yellow lab.

Amanda was born and raised in Alabama and moved to Hartselle with her husband and soon-to-be born son in 2009. Currently, she work in the business office for a contractor in Huntsville, and is also the pianist for her church. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, hiking, photography, reading, painting, and studying Mandarin Chinese. She has been all over the world and has lived abroad, but at the end of the day there is nowhere she would rather be than this little corner of North Alabama. North Alabama has a lot to offer, and she am looking forward to sharing it all with others as an ambassador for Visit Decatur AL.

Jackelyn is all about family, photography, and positivity! She is a healthcare worker by day and a photo bug… well, all the rest of the time. She is a Virginia native and has lived in Alabama for about 6 years. She’s a wife, mom, soon-to-be grandma, and a kid at heart. You may see her around town with her head in the middle of a rose bush just to get the right shot. She believes Alabama is too beautiful to miss a good picture!

Galya moved to Decatur all the way from Russia to work for Pugh Wright Mcanally, Inc. Galya has a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering and is extremely passionate about the work that she does.  She also attends Flint Church of Christ where she is very involved. Galya loves spending time downtown hanging out with her friends, shopping, and trying great food at our local restaurants. Speaking of good food, she is an exceptional cook.

Cesar was born in California but moved to Alabama at a young age. He is happily married and has two sons. He enjoys all the scenery that Alabama has to offer, which is why he loves taking photographs. His hobbies include running, strength training, photography, and any outdoor activities. He looks for positivity in all things. Cesar loves making new friends, exploring new surroundings, and enjoying great food!

Pete was born and raised in Decatur, Alabama. He graduated from The University of Alabama in 2014 and moved to Nashville immediately after graduation. He met my wife in college and they got married in Nashville in 2017. He studied mobile development & communication at Alabama and previously worked as an automation engineer for a healthcare company in Nashville. He’s a tech junkie and is all of his friends & family’s tech support. He got his commercial drone license in 2019 and has worked for himself primarily doing aerial photography and traditional photography/videography. He and his wife recently moved back to North Alabama from Nashville! Their dog Nora is their baby. They love being so much closer to friends and family in Decatur, Athens & Florence!

Kenyala is a local real estate agent and is married to Jody Hicks, LTC Army, Ret. and mother of 4.  She loves animals, to garden, workout, be on the water either boating or kayaking, reading, photography, cooking and traveling but is always happy to be back home in North Alabama!  She is passionate about bringing attention to local small businesses and Morgan County and feels so humbled to be part of the Decatur Ambassador program.

Steve owns Cartagram, a custom mapmaking company producing maps for cities and states, resorts, and publishers. He also co-authors the Adobe Illustrator Wow! Book (Peachpit Press). Steve enjoys the outdoors, especially biking the greenways and trails that take him through North Alabama’s woods and along its waterways. He always brings a camera when he leaves home. Decatur holds a special attraction for Steve—it offers outdoors and in-town venues filled with color, visual drama, and seasonal change. It keeps his camera busy!

Glenn Mitchell is a native of Los Angeles California, but has call North Alabama her home for the past 30 years. She has owned several small businesses in the area including her current salon and photography studio in downtown Decatur. She is the founder and curator of THE CHASING ART PROJECT, a street art project launched in Decatur. Glenn has been on 2 different reality series for major networks as well as being a contributor to local magazines here and across the country. She loves to travel and photograph this world with her 2 daughters Lily and Zoe and come back home to her Great Dane “Coach” and Sphynx “Gucci”.

Meet Visit Decatur AL Ambassador, Callie! Callie resides at Second Read Books located on 2nd Avenue in Downtown Decatur. Callie was adopted when she was just 6 weeks old. Someone had abandoned her in a parking lot. Melinda Jones, Owner of 2nd Read Books, fell in love with her instantly and so began her life at the book store.
